North of 60 – Bringing Father’s Place Back to Life: A Story of Solidarity

fthers placce

SSVP members from Sherwood Park, AB choose to dedicate their time and skills to support Paulatuk, a remote community in the Northwest Territories, where they are restoring “Father’s Place,” a historic building that once stood at the heart of community life.

Over the decades, the building served as a residence, chapel, and gathering space, but it has fallen into disrepair due to harsh Arctic conditions and limited resources. These volunteers spend their summers on this project and contribute work supported by financial and material donations.

Beyond the physical restoration, their efforts represent an important act of solidarity with a community facing high living costs and limited services. For locals, this support is invaluable — helping preserve a meaningful place while strengthening human connections.

Through this project, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul brings its mission to life – Compassion in Action, serving others with dignity and care.
