Maintain leadership in the fight against the many faces of poverty and social exclusion.

The Quebec of today is not the one from 50 years ago. Today’s Quebec experiences a strong cultural diversity which it considers as an asset for its social, economic and ecological development; Quebec’s aging population is offset by growing immigration which, increasingly, supports its productive forces; Quebec’s law on secularism confirms a clear separation between state and religion; finally, Quebec is committed to lifting its population out of poverty as required by the first sustainable development objective, “No poverty” by 2030. It is in this Quebec that the Quebec Provincial Council (SSVP-CRQ) of the Society of Saint-Vincent de Paul has positioned itself to confirm its leadership in the fight against poverty and social exclusion, with the participation of Vincentians working at different levels of the Society across the province.

Beyond its traditional mandates and to contribute more to the provincial strategy to combat poverty, the CRQ is committed to establishing strategic partnerships with government institutions to develop and carry out special projects. Such is the case of the “north of the 60” project funded by the Secretariat for Relations with First Nations and Inuit. The project enabled us to set up a second-hand store in the heart of the city of Kuujjuaq, which the Society continues to supply with clothing and other second-hand items. Also, the Society and its members in the Lanaudière region are carrying out the “Together for the development of our children” project with a subsidy from the Government of Quebec via the Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) of Lanaudière. The project consists of offering services to families in vulnerable situations where at least one child under the age of 12 is experiencing neglect.

The results of this collaboration with government institutions led the CRQ to recommend to all entities of the Society across the province to work in synergy in a win-win partnership with other field organizations, to increase the visibility and contribution of the Society in provincial efforts to combat poverty and social exclusion.
